After a few years of “being the mom who kept One Hour Photo in business”, in 2001 Julie Klaasmeyer started a formal photography business, J Klaasmeyer Portrait Design. Located in Paola, Kansas, initially Julie operated out of her home and then she added a 1,200 square foot studio to her house. From that point, Julie’s business has grown rapidly.  Today she is a respected artist gaining a national reputation for her images, has a new 7,000 square foot retail studio with a children’s boutiques up front and is a sought after to speak at conventions and conferences.  If that isn’t enough to keep her busy, in addition to the photography business, Julie and her sister-in-law have created Design Revolution, a subsidiary online business providing portrait clothing, props and templates to photographers.  Julie builds her careers around a busy home life that involves a helpful husband, Dale, and their four children. “To make it in this business, you have to learn how to run your studio instead of it running you, you have to be excited by the business and you have to really love what you do.”
